Seward ist eine 3000 Einwohner große Stadt im amerikanischen Bundesstaat Alaska. Benannt wurde die Stadt nach einem ehemaligen amerikanischen Außenminister, welcher sich für den Kauf des damals noch zu Russland gehörenden Gebietes einsetzte. So wurde Alaska im Jahr 1867 für 7,2 Millionen Dollar an die USA verkauft. Das entspricht einem Preis von gerade einmal 4,74 Dollar pro Quadratkilometer.

Seward - der Hafen, die Stadt

Seward ist eine 3000 Einwohner große Stadt im amerikanischen Bundesstaat Alaska. Benannt wurde die Stadt nach einem ehemaligen amerikanischen Außenminister, welcher sich für den Kauf des damals noch zu Russland gehörenden Gebietes einsetzte. So wurde Alaska im Jahr 1867 für 7,2 Millionen Dollar an die USA verkauft. Das entspricht einem Preis von gerade einmal 4,74 Dollar pro Quadratkilometer.

Events

Jedes Jahr startet von Seward aus das Iditarod, das wohl längste und härteste Hundeschlittenrennen der Welt. Auf über 1850 Kilometern Länge führt die Strecke vorbei an den schönsten und unberührtesten Orten Alaskas.

Natur

Besonders geschätzt wird Seward wegen der größtenteils unberührten Natur welche die Stadt umgibt. Weite Teile stehen schon seit vielen Jahren unter Naturschutz und lassen sich wunderbar zu Fuß erkunden.
